TECHNOLOGY

Production Process

The production or propagation of flower seedlings is either from seed or vegetative by division, cuttings, grafting, budding, or layering. Since some chemicals in a form of liquid fertilizer and fungicide could be used it can have a negative impact on the environment. Hence, laborers working in the farm should be provided with goggles, hand gloves, boots and overall to be used as protective clothes. The application of these chemicals should be conducted in a controlled manner to avoid infiltration and pollution of under ground water so that the area to be used for production of seedlings should be lined with polyethylene mat.

Investment

The total investment requirement is estimated at about Birr 2.12 million, out of which Birr 34.95 thousand is required for plant and machinery. The plant will create employment opportunities for 30 persons. The project is financially viable with an internal rate of return (IRR) of 22.28% and a net present value (NPV) of Birr 1.72 million discounted at 8.5%.
